The animal may begin to loose weight also. If you see these symptoms you need to get your pet into the vet have a urine sample and blood tests done. The earlier you get it diagnosed, the better chance of successful treatment. The vet will prescribe based on the results of the test. Undetected, diabetes can lead to urinary tract infections as well as cataracts.

Healthy Diet

While there is no cure for diabetes, if a treatement schedule is followed and a healthy diet fed, diabetes can have minimal affect on the animal’s life. Your vet will be able to instruct you as to the proper way of administering any and all medications prescribed and it is very important that you stick to the schedule given. It is also very important that you monitor your animal’s progress.

Medications

The vet can prescribe medications, however without your help, the vet cannot know whether those medications are sufficient of if they need to be changed. Keep a record of your test strip results and the amount of insulin given, record your animals eating habits and general attitude.

The more information you give your vet, the better your vet will be able to help you deal with this serious health issue.
